Berkshire Hathaway Boosts Bending Spoons Stake To 4% With New Investment

Berkshire Hathaway agreed to invest an additional $330 million in Bending Spoons, lifting its stake in the Italy-based software company to 4%. The deal, reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, would issue 10 million new ordinary shares at $33 each. Completion remains subject to customary closing conditions.

A $33 share price below Tuesday’s close

Berkshire Hathaway will receive 10 million ordinary shares in a private placement, and the price sits well under where the stock closed the day before. The Motley Fool calculated the $33 price as a 13% discount to Tuesday’s close. citybiz put that close at $37.86.

The new money sits on top of an earlier purchase. Berkshire bought a $600 million stake during Bending Spoons’ initial public offering in July 2026. citybiz totals the two transactions at $930 million.

Shares rose by 34% to 45%, depending on the source and the hour

The size of the rally depends on which outlet and which time stamp a reader uses. CNBC reported a 35% gain. Reuters put the rise at 34%, and the Motley Fool measured a 35.4% increase by 10:35 a.m. ET.

The closing-price figures diverge too. Benzinga reported that shares climbed 40.2% to $53.10 on Wednesday, while Reuters said the stock jumped to $51.10. The Nasdaq Composite fell around 200 points that day, Benzinga reported.

Patarnello ties the money to acquisitions

Francesco Patarnello, who is the company’s co-founder and head of business acquisitions, said the company continuously evaluates M&A opportunities, and he tied the investment to the company’s financing plans.

“We believe Berkshire Hathaway’s investment reflects confidence in our team and Platform and will further enhance our financial flexibility and ability to pursue attractive acquisitions as part of our broader financing strategy.”

Reuters placed Berkshire at the company’s sixth-largest investor, citing LSEG data, and noted that the company owns Vimeo, AOL and Tractive. The stake change also arrives as Berkshire’s chief executive, Greg Abel, runs the conglomerate after succeeding Warren Buffett earlier this year, CNBC reported.

A valuation that the Motley Fool calls full

The Motley Fool said the stock trades at more than 16 times trailing sales and more than 130 times earnings after the rally. It also cited free cash flow over the last 12 months, about 80% more than reported net income.

None of the sources say when the share issuance will close. citybiz reported that completion depends on customary closing conditions, so the 4% figure describes an agreed transaction rather than a finished one.

Serial acquirer buys productivity platforms

The newly funded enterprise operates as a serial acquirer centered on buying and transforming various digital entities and software applications. Its expansive commercial catalog incorporates multiple prominent consumer and enterprise platforms, including productivity tools, file-sharing networks, and database services. Among the most substantial recent additions to its portfolio was a massive $1.28 billion buyout of the productivity and database platform Airtable, completed just one month prior to the market rally. That high-profile acquisition demonstrated the organization’s push beyond lighter digital media utility applications into deeply entrenched corporate software tools. Following the closure of that transaction, leadership initiated major workforce reductions across Airtable as part of a broad post-deal restructuring wave.

While such workforce reductions and operational overhauls regularly draw scrutiny from labor advocates and affected workers, capital markets have consistently rewarded the enterprise for its capacity to extract positive operating margins from growth-stage targets. Warren Buffett’s enterprise contributes a fresh $330 million, demonstrating deep institutional trust in the operational and fiscal management demonstrated by Bending Spoons. By raising its overall ownership position to a 4% equity stake, the investment powerhouse provides substantial dry powder for further software acquisitions and structural scaling.

Berkshire Hathaway itself encompasses a sprawling array of businesses spanning insurance, energy, rail transportation, manufacturing, and retail, with a history of investing across diverse industries. Under the leadership of CEO Greg Abel, who took the helm from founder and legendary investor Warren Buffett at the start of the year, the conglomerate has increased its exposure to technology companies and artificial intelligence, establishing Alphabet as its third-largest common stock holding alongside its largest stock investment in Apple.

During the same trading session, Bending Spoons shares achieved an aggressive Nasdaq rally despite broader technology sector headwinds that dragged the composite index down by roughly 200 points. Analysts polled by S&P Global Market Intelligence estimated that the company could grow earnings at 55% annually over the next five years, leaving commentators at outlets like The Motley Fool to observe that while the trade worked out nicely for Berkshire Hathaway, the easy money in the stock has already been made.
