US Officials Suspect Megaspeed Exec Passed Data to Beijing: NYT

US intelligence officials believe Alice Huang, a Megaspeed executive also known as Huang Le, was a Chinese intelligence asset who built a close relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, The New York Times reported Thursday, citing unnamed sources. China and Nvidia dispute the account. She is no relation to him.

The Times reported, per The Guardian, that officials concluded she was passing commercial information to Beijing. Alice Huang did not respond to the paper’s request for comment, the, BBC reported. Nothing in the coverage says Jensen Huang did anything wrong.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a Friday briefing that the report is based on groundless speculation and is nothing more than an attempt to smear China. Nvidia spokesman John Rizzo said Jensen Huang’s interactions with Ms Huang are not unusual or unexpected.

US Officials Say Surveillance Caught Alice Huang

Alice Huang was under surveillance over suspected diversion of Nvidia chips to China. Surveillance reportedly picked up communications with an American citizen, later identified as Jensen Huang through “unmasking,” the process of identifying an American caught in surveillance, according to the BBC. The BBC notes it remains unclear what she passed to Beijing, how valuable it was, or when it began.

Fox Business, summarizing the Times, said officials learned she had met the CEO multiple times. The New York Post, also citing the Times, said she was not officially accused of wrongdoing, and that the Times could not establish how close the relationship was.

The Post also described a June 2024 Taipei bar meeting, followed weeks later by multimillion-dollar Megaspeed shipments of Nvidia’s most advanced chips. The Post presents that as sequence, not cause.

Megaspeed’s Sister Company Bought $4.8 Billion in Nvidia Gear

Megaspeed’s Malaysian sister company bought at least $4.8 billion in Nvidia equipment between June 2024 and February 2026, according to trade records cited by the Times, Rediff reported. Megaspeed rents computing capacity to Chinese companies including Alibaba, Rediff said.

The Post, citing Bloomberg, said Megaspeed imported about 136,000 Nvidia GPUs through November 2025, yet Nvidia’s inspectors found only a few thousand of the newest chips at its data center. Tom’s Hardware added that Commerce Department officials found ordered equipment still boxed at the Malaysia site.

Commerce handed its probe to the Justice Department this year. Singapore questioned Huang Le in 2025 and released her without charge.

Nvidia still lists Megaspeed as a cloud partner, and the two kept doing business this year, per Rediff. Nvidia says the smuggling allegations were thoroughly investigated and debunked last year. Megaspeed told the Times its current leadership took the claims seriously, hired external legal advisers for an internal investigation and told the US government it would cooperate.

Yahoo Finance said Nvidia’s last forward guidance again left out China sales. Shares fell 3% before the bell Friday; at 9:54 AM EDT they traded at 207.38, down 6.28, or 2.94%. The sources do not tie the move to any specific effect on revenue or contracts.

Jensen Huang Got No Warning, Reports Say

Jensen Huang has not received a defensive briefing, a warning given to people targeted by foreign spies. CNET said the Times attributed that to risk to the investigation; Gizmodo said the Times speculated officials feared tipping her off. Nvidia says it is confident the US government would tell it if anyone were a threat to American industry.

CNET and Fox Business said Trump was briefed about a year ago and took no action. The Daily Beast said officials then did not believe Jensen Huang knew of her Beijing ties; Gizmodo said unnamed White House officials told the Times it is doubtful he did not know.
