Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival 2026 recorded a 100 per cent year-on-year surge in products ordered during its opening phase on October 8, 2026, as shopping platform visits crossed 440 million and demand expanded across smaller towns and premium merchandise categories.

India’s annual festive e-commerce season kicked off with a flying start on October 8, 2026, as major online retailers launched synchronized sales events packed with aggressive discounts, bank offers, and financing deals.

Amazon reported that its product orders doubled compared to the opening of last year’s event, with shoppers from every single pin code in India placing orders across categories including consumer electronics, smartphones, fashion, beauty, and home appliances. Sellers recorded more than twice as many units ordered in the first 24 hours compared to the same period previously, and sellers generating over Rs 1 crore in sales during that initial window increased by over 80 per cent year-on-year.

At the same time, rival platform Flipkart recorded 6.3 million concurrent users in a single minute during the opening hour of its 13th Big Billion Days sale.

Premium Devices Lift Market Value Despite Lower Volumes

Counterpoint Research projected that while Indian smartphone volumes during the 2026 festive period may decline by about 12 per cent year-on-year, market value is expected to rise by 5 per cent due to higher average selling prices. Amazon noted that sales of premium Android smartphones rose 70 per cent year-on-year, while MacBook Neo sales reached 65 times a regular day’s volume. Premium wearables surged to 80 times normal daily levels.

Individual smartphone models saw aggressive price cuts supported by bank discounts and coupon offers.

Home Appliances and Beauty Brands Post Tenfold Surges

Versuni India, which manages Philips home appliances, recorded a tenfold surge compared to normal operating days.

During the opening 12 hours, high-end home theatre systems sold at 100 times their usual rate, while home entertainment transactions surged to 77 times baseline levels, with sets of 55 inches and greater making up 65 per cent of all television purchases.

Beauty brand Renee reported that first-day sales doubled from a year earlier to reach triple its usual daily level. Premium skin and hair care products sold over 150 units every minute at five times normal levels, luxury fragrances sold at four times typical daily volumes, and K-Beauty products moved over 1,000 units every hour.

Flexible Financing and Quick Commerce Accelerate Festive Deliveries

One in every two Amazon customers utilized equated monthly installments, while one in three units sold included cashback. Prime members saved more than twice as much through Prime-exclusive offers compared to the corresponding period last year.

Operating via its quick-commerce arm Flipkart Minutes, the platform saw orders multiply by 3.5 while bringing in an 11-fold surge in fresh buyers, highlighted by a standout fulfillment when an iPhone 17 reached a buyer in New Delhi in just 3.4 minutes during early access.
