President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump signed an executive order on Monday creating a White House Women’s Health Task Force and a Women’s Health Division at the National Institutes of Health. The White House says it strengthens research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for girls and women.
Trump Order Creates Task Force and NIH Division, Leaving One Office in Place
The order is titled Advancing Women's Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life.
According to the White House, the new NIH division is meant to accelerate scientific discoveries that improve women’s health outcomes. The order also recognizes the value of working with the private sector on new technologies and solutions.
NBC News reported that a White House official said the task force will be led by chief of staff Susie Wiles, who recently announced she is cancer-free, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

NBC also reported that the new division will not replace the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health but will have a wider mandate beyond research. The White House material does not address that office.
The first task force working session was set to convene on the afternoon of the signing, according to the First Lady’s prepared remarks.
Melania Trump Lays Out Five Pillars
Melania Trump framed the work around what she called the First Lady’s Five Pillars of Women’s Health Innovation:
- directing research funding toward diseases that affect women in a unique way;
- using what she calls “super intelligence” to deepen understanding of female biology and speed discoveries;
- moving promising therapies from laboratories to female patients faster, while keeping strict safety standards;
- making breakthroughs accessible and affordable regardless of a woman’s finances;
- replacing generations of silence with open conversation, education and compassion.
In her remarks, she said: Previous generations fought for women’s rights. Our generation will fight to discover the cures that will ensure a woman can live her life in health and to the fullest
. NBC said she also spoke of artificial intelligence, access and affordability of care.
NBC Sets the Record Beside the Announcement
The White House presents a research-and-access initiative. A policy that would allow political appointees to control health-research funding has prompted legal action.
Questions the Sources Leave Open
Neither source gives a funding amount or a budget source for the task force or the division. They do not name who will run the division, how it will be staffed, or what deliverables or deadlines it faces.

They do not say which diseases will be prioritized, how super intelligence
will be applied, or how affordability will be ensured. No reaction from medical groups to this order appears.
The White House has published the order and a fact sheet; whether they settle the questions on money and the division’s powers is the next thing to watch.
