Several members of the Khan family gathered at Sohail’s home for the celebrations, including Arpita Khan Sharma, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and their mother, Salma Khan, according to ibtimes.co.in. Arpita and Alvira arrived in traditional outfits, while Salma Khan covered her head with a bandana and wore a shirt paired with jeans as she joined the family for the puja. Other guests at Sohail Khan’s house included Pooja Hegde, Neha Dhupia and her husband Angad Bedi, and social media influencer Orry, ap7am.com reported.
A Multi-Faith Family Tradition
According to ap7am.com, the Khan family’s Ganeshotsav celebrations reflect the multi-faith culture within their household. Salman’s father, screenwriter Salim Khan, is Muslim, while his mother, Sushila Charak, known as Salma Khan, was born into a Hindu family, and his stepmother, Helen, is Christian. The family has long embraced different religious traditions without treating faith as a barrier, and every year they welcome Lord Ganesha into their home, with Salman taking part in the prayers, aarti and festivities.
Eco-Friendly Ganpati Has Long Been a Khan Family Practice
Salman has previously spoken about his family’s choice to bring home eco-friendly Ganesha idols for years, citing concerns about cleanliness and civic responsibility. At an event organised by the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai, Mumbai Police and Chattra Sansad, he said, according to Times of India, Eco-friendly Ganesha has been coming to our house for a very long time. Until there is a purity in the festival, you can’t celebrate the festival.
He also recalled being disturbed by broken idol parts left scattered after visarjan, saying, After the visarjan, some idols’ head, trunk, leg are scattered everywhere and some people step on other scattered idols of Lord Ganesha. It’s not nice. Basically, I want to say I won’t throw garbage and won’t let others throw garbage.
Salman further noted the waste generated during the festival, including paper, plastic cups and bottles that are later cleared by BMC workers, urging devotees to opt for eco-friendly idols instead.
A Recurring Annual Ritual
The Khan family’s Ganpati celebrations have long attracted public attention, according to khaskhabar.com. In 2025, Ganpati was installed at Arpita Khan Sharma’s Mumbai residence, where Salman was seen performing the aarti with his parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, along with other family members and close friends. During the immersion ceremony that year, Salman was seen dancing with Arpita and actress Sonakshi Sinha.
