Marvel Comics and Star Wars are launching their first-ever crossover miniseries, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, in January 2027. Written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez, the story unites Earth-616 heroes with classic Star Wars characters, while a matching LEGO Ideas challenge invites fan mash-up builds.
Fans have spent nearly fifty years waiting for an official crossover between Marvel Comics and the Star Wars galaxy. That long wait ends in January 2027 when Marvel Comics launches the five-issue limited series Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. The project arrives just in time to mark the landmark 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars film, which premiered in April 1977 just weeks after Marvel published the very first issue of its original Star Wars comic run.
Showcased at New York Comic Con, a selection of variant covers for the comic features artwork by Kaare Andrews, Rafael Albuquerque, Alex Ross, Ron Lim, Jerry Ordway, Jerome Opeña, and Dan Jurgens, who each lend their artistic prowess to this blending of the Marvel Universe and a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Kevin Smith Script Brings Star Wars Events to Earth-616 Continuity
The crossover takes place directly within Marvel’s main Earth-616 continuity. According to the official plot setup, a reality-shattering spell causes the events of Star Wars: A New Hope to unfold directly on Earth, leaving Marvel’s most iconic heroes to witness the saga play out in front of them.

The Avengers, Spider-Man, Captain America, and the Hulk join forces with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the crew of the Millennium Falcon. Opposing them is a formidable villain alliance pairing Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire with Doctor Doom, Thanos, and Ultron.

Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain praised the scripts as a true love letter to both franchises, highlighting the pairing with series artist David Marquez. Advanced interior page previews shown at New York Comic Con featured Darth Vader battling Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and The Thing.
Variant Covers Feature Darth Vader Wielding the Infinity Gauntlet
The main series covers are drawn by David Marquez, while guest artists contribute alliance pairings, one-on-one showdowns, classic movie recreations, and retro homages.
Among the standout variant reveals are pieces by Kaare Andrews, Rafael Albuquerque, Alex Ross, Ron Lim, Jerry Ordway, Jerome Opeña, and Dan Jurgens. Sffgazette highlighted artwork by Jerome Opeña showing Darth Vader squaring off against the Hulk under an orange sky filled with TIE fighters and X-wings. Other variant designs show Darth Vader wearing the Infinity Gauntlet and Professor X pairing with Obi-Wan Kenobi while wearing Cerebro.
