WEAPONS. Sara Madera and Giulia Rulli, who in the season just ended contributed to the salvation of Pf Broni 93, fly to the Tokyo Olympics with Italy women’s version 3 against 3, discipline making its absolute debut in the most important sporting event in the world.

The Oltrepadana company, on its social channels and on the website, wanted to pay homage to the girls who took part in the last season of what had been renamed the ItalBroni project. The center from Livorno born in 2000 and the Roman winger born in 1991, together with teammates Rae D’Alie and Chiara Consolini, bought the ticket last weekend at the qualifying tournament in Debrecen, Hungary. Italy therefore brings a national basketball team back to the Olympics after 17 years: the last time in 2004 in Athens where the Azzurri, in the traditional 5 vs 5 version, won silver.

In the Debrecen tournament, the Azzurre played in a row, beating China Taipei (21-11) and Iran (21-5) in the group, then Holland in the semifinal (16-11) and the hosts of Hungary (13 -12) in the final. The other qualified nationals are Russia, China, Mongolia, Romania, the United States, France and Japan. The Olympic tournament is scheduled from 24 to 28 July next in Tokyo. Italy had missed the first chance to qualify in Graz at the end of May, but this time they hit the target. The last appearance of a women’s basketball team at the Games was in Atlanta 1996, 27 years ago. Great satisfaction was expressed by the federal president Gianni Petrucci.
