Saturday’s match in Wales canceled due to positivity in the British: Treviso will play the cup at home with a South African
TREVISO. You could also get there with your own strength (yes, the impression was that this time the Ospreys stadium would be violated) but the pandemic got in the way once again. And if previously it was Benetton that was damaged (the 0-20 one at the table with Agen in the Challenge risked undermining the progress in the cup) this time karma smiles in Treviso. Which is in the final of the Rainbow Cup: Saturday will not be played in Wales due to Covid between the Ospreys, and the Lions thus bypass Glasgow and become unreachable for Munster.
PRO14 Rugby confirms that the sixth round match of the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup between Ospreys Rugby and Benetton Rugby to be held on Saturday 12 June in Wales has been canceled due to positive Covid-19 cases in the Ospreys squad.
Following the cancellation, Benetton Rugby then qualified for the final of the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup on June 19th. Ospreys Rugby is working closely with the Welsh public health after the latest series of Covid-19 tests which highlighted 3 positive cases.
The decision to cancel the match is the result of the Wales public health mandate that all people who were part of the team group involved in the previous match are now required to self-isolate in line with protocols. If there are no remaining weekends available, the game will therefore not be rescheduled.
Consequently, in compliance with the PRO14 protocol, four points will be awarded to the team to which it is not possible to attribute the cause of the postponement. In this case Benetton Rugby will receive four points. The addition of the four points allows Benetton Rugby to reach 22 points in the standings.
It is therefore mathematically impossible for any other team in the standings to score more than 20 points. Benetton Rugby is therefore the ‘North’ representative in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup final scheduled for Saturday 19 June at 18:30 at the Monigo Stadium.
