The app owned by ByteDance reached 80 million new installations in the month of May alone: Brazilian citizens are the ones who downloaded the most (16% of the total), followed by the Chinese (12%), who they know her as Douyin; according to analysts, TikTok installations increased 35% in May compared to the previous month. However, app downloads fell 29% year-over-year, falling short of May 2020’s record of 112 million downloads.
