Archived red carpet footage of Russell Brand and Katy Perry has resurfaced across social media following the comedian’s conviction on rape and sexual assault charges at Southwark Crown Court, according to Independent.
Red Carpet Archive and 2010 GMTV Interview
The stand-up comic and actor, 51, was found guilty on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, as reported by the Independent. Jurors acquitted Brand of two additional rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault, according to USA Today.
In the wake of the verdict, viewers reshared a 2010 video filmed as Brand and Perry arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where an interviewer from GMTV asked them about that year’s Academy Awards. Brand started to answer before Perry interrupted him, stating: You didn’t watch it!
according to Metro.
When the reporter told Perry that she had put him on the spot, Brand replied, I did watch the Oscars,
and Perry told the interviewer, I call him on his b*******,
as noted by the Independent.
During the interaction, Brand held up a badge bearing the word Obey
and tapped it in Perry’s direction, after which she fell silent. When the interviewer asked Perry how she dealt with him, she called him hilarious before Brand pulled her away.
The crimes for which Brand was convicted involved four women and occurred between 2004 and 2009, before the couple married. The Crown Prosecution Service noted that Brand used his celebrity status to commit sexual crimes during a period when his entertainment career was expanding.
Pre-Trial Legal Rulings and Marriage Mentions
Before the trial began, prosecutors agreed to leave Katy Perry out of their opening statement after Brand’s legal team objected to mentioning their relationship, Variety reported.

Lead prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC noted in pre-trial submissions that matters following 2009 involving the singer might prove sensitive, according to USA Today. Perry was not asked to provide a witness statement during the police investigation, as confirmed by senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor David Roberts.
Although prosecutors omitted the marriage from their opening remarks, Brand referenced the relationship himself while testifying. He told jurors that the period brought him staggering fame. The couple began dating in 2009, married in a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India, in 2010, and separated by the end of 2011, with their divorce finalized in 2012.
Resurfaced Television Clips and Past Panel Shows
Social media users also reshared a 2007 clip from Channel 4’s featuring Brand and fellow panellist Noel Fielding making jokes about rape. Fellow guest Lily Allen, who was 21 at the time and the only woman on the panel, described the exchange years later in a 2023 interview as really horrendous.
Custody Status and Upcoming Sentencing
Following the jury’s verdict on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Judge Mr Justice Bennathan told Brand that the convictions carried a custodial sentence of some length, according to the Independent. Brand was denied bail and remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing hearing scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026.
Legal guidelines indicate that a rape conviction can carry a maximum of life imprisonment in England and Wales, with an offense range of four to 19 years in custody, while sexual assault convictions can result in up to 10 years in prison.
