Meghan Markle Shares Video of Prince Harry and Children in Cotswolds

Meghan Markle posted a 35-second Instagram video showing Prince Harry, their children Archie and Lilibet, and their dog Pula settling into life at their Cotswolds home, the first such footage since the Sussexes’ return to Britain in August. The clip arrives amid a widening rift with Buckingham Palace over their royal status.

The montage is quiet on words and loud on scenery: woodland walks in wellingtons, a rowing boat on a lake, a Labrador bounding down a fern-lined path. No statement, no press release — just Wham!’s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go running under scenes of two kids in muddy boots.

Archie, seven, cheers Go! Go! as five-year-old Lilibet pedals a pink tasselled bicycle — a doll strapped to the back — toward deer grazing across a parkland track. He’s picked up his father’s accent, the outlet noted. Harry calls out Archie! as the boy dashes into frame in a pink shirt and blue wellies. Lilibet, in one shot, warms her bare feet by a fireplace, humming to herself.

A Cotswolds Base, Two Dogs and New Schools

The family is based at a private Cotswolds property, with Archie and Lilibet enrolled in British schools for the new academic year, according to both aol.com and europesays.com. They’re keeping the Montecito mansion and a holiday home in Portugal, aol.com reported. Europesays.com adds that a Sussex spokesman last month would not confirm the family’s arrival but did confirm they were bringing their dogs, Mia and Pula — the black Labrador seen repeatedly in the video, adopted by the couple several years ago.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior royals and began a new life in the US in 2020, europesays.com noted. Their return to Britain this year does not restore that status. They will live in Britain as non-working royals, not resume official duties.

The King’s Letter and “Private Citizens”

Behind the idyllic footage sits a formal, and reportedly unwelcome, clarification from the Palace. King Charles sent a letter — on his behalf, via the Lord Chamberlain, a top Palace official — to senior government officials, military leaders, Lord Lieutenants and the Sussexes’ own team, spelling out that Harry and Meghan are not rejoining the institution as working royals, according to aol.com. The letter states they will still not be able to use titles of His and Her Royal Highness and remain private citizens, europesays.com reported.

Aol.com frames the same friction slightly differently, reporting that sources close to Harry and Meghan said they were surprised by the correspondence, having understood there were discussions about a possible half in, half out arrangement before the letter landed.

Uganda Pulls Out of the Invictus Games

That fallout has reached the Invictus Games. Uganda has withdrawn from the competition, and insiders allied to the couple told People, as relayed by aol.com, that Kampala’s decision was a direct result of perceived guidance from the Lord Chamberlain.

A separate, longer-running security dispute over security has not gone away either. Harry has reportedly made private appeals to Shabana Mahmood over state-funded police protection for his family, having previously described the issue as the final sticking point in reconciling with the royals, per aol.com.

A Crowded September Calendar

The couple’s autumn schedule is already creating friction with the official royal calendar. Harry is set to attend the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards on this Thursday — an event Meghan may also attend — which falls on the same day as William and Catherine’s planned visit to the Isle of Bute and the King’s meeting with global AI leaders, aol.com reported. Harry has further engagements this month: the launch of the Invictus education programme INSPIRE and the WellChild Awards in London on September 21.

'Countryside Walk, Bicycle Trip': Meghan Reveals New UK Life, Rare Family Glimpse Amid Royal Feud

Meghan, meanwhile, is considering a return to charitable work once the children are settled. Smart Works, a charity helping vulnerable unemployed women find jobs, is understood to be a priority, according to aol.com. The outlet also notes she has been the centre of rumours that she would return to acting after Guy Ritchie offered her a role in his hit TV show The Gentlemen.

None of the sourced material says whether Meghan plans to post further glimpses of the family’s Cotswolds life, or whether the Palace intends to respond publicly to the Invictus fallout. For now, the only public statement from the family remains the video itself — a Union flag, a heart emoji, and a boy shouting his sister’s name across a field of deer.
