New York,   – Emma Colonel Aispur, young wife of “Chapo” Joaquin Guzman, one of the biggest drug traffickers in the world, admitted taking command of the Mexican Sinaloa cartel after her husband’s arrest in 2014. Forbes reports.

The woman, who had always denied having played a leading role, admitted her responsibilities before the prosecutors, including the plan that led to her husband’s escape from prison in 2015. At the trial of the Chapo, which took place in New York in 2019, the woman, who was 17 when she met Guzman, now in her forties, had attended all the hearings. Her husband had been sentenced to life in prison.

Emma Coronel Aispur, 31, was arrested on February 21 this year. The admission of guilt would be part of an agreement to get a hefty penalty discount. The sentence is expected in September.

The breakthrough of the so-called “Drug Lady”, anticipated by the New York Times, could lead to a ten-year sentence, but Chapo’s wife faced life in prison. “My client – one of the lawyers commented to Forbes – feels relieved. She believes that she will be able to take back her life and one day put everything behind her”.
