Saxony-Anhalt in the vote, the shadow of the Afd: the ultra-right threatens Merkel’s party

BERLIN. Seats open from 7 this morning in Saxony-Anhalt for the elections in the central-eastern German Land which are a test on the health of Angela Merkel’s CDU and the national ambitions of the far right of the ADF. One million and 800 thousand voters are called to the polls. Reiner Haseloff, at the helm of the former GDR Land since 2011, is aiming for re-election for what he has assured will be his third and final term.
