The Giro d’Italia under 23 started yesterday, one of the international reference events for the stage races of the category. Two people from Belluno, Andrea Pietrobon, captain of the Cycling team Friuli, and Daniel Cassol, very young in the Uc Trevigiani Campana packaging jersey.

With them, to seek glory in the stages for sprinters, the Brescia with Longaronese ancestry (the grandmother was from Roggia), Michele Gazzoli, of Team Colpack.

THE AMBITIONS OF PIETROBON

Andrea Pietrobon, in the fourth year of Under, does not hide. After the spring rankings, where he had a very high performance while never hitting the acute one, the boy from Tai went to Livigno to better prepare for the pink appointment, the second goal of the season.

“It was eighteen days of great intensity in Livigno and the condition is good,” he explains. «I’m in the Giro to aim for the classification but, as you know, there are always a lot of variables and the road will decide. The Giro is very hard and the level is very high ».

THE DEBUT OF CASSOL

For Daniel Cassol, the Giro represents the first stage race of his career.

«I have only been Under for a few months and I am at the Giro to gain experience and to help my teammates», says Cassol. «At the team level, with Luca Colnaghi we can aim for the fast stages, with Cristofer Pellegrini and Francesco Busatto in the Youth classification».

THE STAGES

Yesterday’s stage, Cesenatico – Riccione of 144 kilometers, saw the escape rewarded, with the final victory of Andrea Cantoni. Pietrobon finished quietly in the group while Cassol broke away on the final climb.

Today we run the Riccione – Imola, 138 kilometers that in the final show Cima Gallisterna, the third category mountain grand prix that in 2020 was one of the highlights of the world circuit. Altogether the stages are ten. One of the most difficult, if not the most difficult, is the Cavalese – Nevegal finish line in Pian Longhi) on Friday 11 June: 161.7 kilometers of development and 3.100 meters in altitude spread over four mountain grand prix: Valles (first category), Val Cantuna (third category) and twice the Nevegal tackled from the Losego side.
