MILAN. The match on TV rights in Serie A is not over yet. After accepting Dazn’s offer (840 million for all ten matches per day, seven of which are exclusive), the no to Sky’s proposal on the last package still in the pipeline came today from the assembly of the clubs, that is one to broadcast the other three races in co-exclusive with the streaming platform in the three-year period 2021/24. The abstention of seven companies has in fact blocked the road to Comcast’s pay-TV ok, despite the favorable vote of thirteen clubs.
It was not enough for Sky to raise the offer from 70 to 87.5 million (on average) a year for the package that includes the co-exclusive for the Saturday night challenge, the advance on Sunday at 12.30 and the postponement of the Monday evening. At the time of the vote Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Lazio, Atalanta, Verona and Fiorentina abstained, with the confirmation of a common front that has already stopped the funds operation and immediately pushed to vote in favor of the proposed Dazn. Seven teams, that is the minimum number not to assign the rights to pay-TV, given that 14 votes in favor would have been needed. Now the League will have to proceed with a new call, with the aim of collecting an offer of over 100 million per season, in line with what Dazn will pay for the same three co-exclusive matches (100 million).
A figure that would very close the value of the TV rights for the three-year period 2021/24 to the 973 million that the League collected from Sky and Dazn in the period 2018/21. The new announcement will also allow other interesting subjects to be able to get back into the race: on all Mediaset and Amazon, even if the exclusion by the clubs of the possibility of broadcasting a game in the clear (but it could return to the table later) seems to have cooled the interest of the TV of the Biscione.
