Paris, June 7, 2021 – What a pity for Lorenzo Musetti. The 19-year-old tennis player plays an amazing eighth-final at the Roland Garros against his majesty Novak Djokovic and touches the passage to the quarters, where he would have crossed paths with Matteo Berrettini for a historic Italian derby. But the native of Carrara, after flying 2-0 thanks to a double 7-6, has to deal with a vertical collapse, mainly due to physical problems. The Serbian demolishes the blue in the next two sets (6-1, 6-0), with Musetti in evident difficulty. The number 61 of the world grits his teeth at the beginning of the fifth and decisive set, but in the fourth game he decides to retire, beaten by pain in the groin. To greet his exit from the field the applause of the whole audience and a Djokovic who had a really bad time.

Balance reigns supreme from the very first bars of the match. Musetti does not let himself be intimidated by the number 1 in the world, not even when he suffers the break in the fourth game. The class of 2002 responds with the usual currency and the match drags on until the tie-break, in which our representative takes the first set by recovering after a false start, with the rival leading 4-1. The trend of the second set is very similar to the first, only this time it is Nole who goes down 3-1. The Serbian champion, however, does not give up and in turn breaks Musetti’s serve. It goes back to the tie-break, with the blue who flies to 5-1 and then closes the accounts.
The decline, then the withdrawal
Success is one step away, but Djokovic reacts as a phenomenon. The class ’87 rises monstrously with blows, sending out Musetti, who cannot resist, giving up the third set in just 23 minutes and taking only one game. It is the first sign of the physical decline of the Italian, who is unable to shake himself even in the fourth set. On the contrary, things get worse if possible: the fatigue is evident on Musetti’s face, who sees himself overwhelmed by Djokovic in 17 ‘of play. At this point the Carrarino decides to call a medical time-out, returning to the locker room. The withdrawal seems to be around the corner, but Musetti bravely tries to end the challenge. Nothing to do, because with Djokovic in the lead 4-0, the blue pulls himself out of the contest after touching his groin. Such a pity.
