The response of the ‘people’ of the center-left, in the primaries, is there, it is good, despite two fearsome opponents (the scorching heat and the Azzurri on the pitch). Furthermore, the two candidates of Letta (Lepore and Gualtieri) both won and also very well: Lepore with 60% on 40% of Conti and Gualtieri with a good, albeit not exceptional 61% (against 14.3% of the second, Giovanni Caudo, via the other dwarves). Worse than Turin it was, objectively, impossible to do, if only for the size of Rome (2.8 million inhabitants) and the importance of the challenge in Bologna (388 thousand inhabitants). But also the comparison with the previous primaries, for the Democratic Party, is positive: in Rome, there are 45 thousand today, just under the 47 thousand voters in 2016 when the primaries won them Roberto Giachetti (who then lost the elections with the Rays). A triumph that, however, was considered “a flop”, at the time because there were 100 thousand voters in 2013 when he won Ignazio Marino.

A Bologna, on the other hand, in the primaries won by Virginio Merola, in 2011 with 51%, there were 28 thousand voters. The result of yesterday’s vote, almost 27 thousand under the Two Towers in a gun-toting competition indicates that the ‘big party’ went to vote (for Lepore) while the moderates did not go (in this case for Conti). In short, the results are ‘in line’ with the past. As, of course, are the winners with the line and the desires of the Nazarene: Lepore in Bologna, strongly supported by Enrico Letta, also because the competitor was the Renziana Isabella Conti – if only for this opposed, to the Nazarene – and Gualtieri to Rome.

A candidate that Letta, on the other hand, ‘suffered’ (he wanted and tried to the last to get Zingaretti), but who was the only name that could be spent on the Roman market. The real challenge, however, for Gualtieri, will be to succeed get to the ballot with the right with difficult and strong competitors such as Calenda and Raggi.
