Abatangelo does not give up, at 39 he wants the tricolor

The Montanaro boxer will face the Italian light heavyweight champion on 2 July. The crown is up for grabs: “I’m not going to be a favorite, but I’ll leave no stone unturned”

A new Italian chance has arrived for the Montanarese professional boxer Stefano Abatangelo (Loreni D. Pa. Sport) to win the Italian light heavyweight title. The 39-year-old boxer will fight on Friday 2 July at the Censin Bosia municipal stadium in via Ugo Foscolo in Asti against the reigning champion Adriano Sperandio from Lazio, at a distance of ten rounds.

«I am ready for this new opportunity – says Abatangelo – I am preparing myself in the best way but, as I have always done in my career. I am not a favorite against Sperandio, who is a very strong boxer, but I will try in every way to have a good match and leave no stone unturned ».

In this last period, due to the pandemic, the Canavese boxer has changed training gym, passing to that of Grugliasco boxing with maestro Antonio Pasqualino: «Andrea Fontana helps me for my athletic training, in the New team gym».

For Abatangelo it will be the thirty-second meeting as a professional. He scored 23 wins, nine by knockout, seven losses and one draw.

The debut among the professors in October 2005. He won the Italian title twice: on May 31, 2013 in Rivarolo against Emanuele Barletta and on June 22, 2018 in Cornegliano d’Alba (Cuneo) against Vigan Mustafà. On 28 December 2012 in Turin he overtook Maurizio Lovaglio and won the Mediterranean title.

Next Sunday 13 June starting at 3.30 pm a boxing meeting reserved for amateurs will take place in the Skull boxe Canavesana gym in via Bausano (Pasquaro district) in Rivarolo. Twelve matches are scheduled, eleven will see athletes from the former Italian champion Alessio Furlan’s club on the square.

Among the schoolgirls Adele Vallero will be involved in the 48 kilograms against Maria Macchiolo (Valbormida academy), among the school boys Francesco Defenu in the 59 kg against Matteo Neggia (Biella) and Gabriele Bellandi in the 54 kg against Matteo Iammarino (boxing Grugliasco). Among the youths Damiano Vallelonga in the 69 kg against Raffaele Di Renzo (Nichelino) and among the juniors Marco Roberto in the 48 kg against Fabian Pali (Valbormida). In the women’s elite, Anna Grande in 57 kg will face Valentina Marzolino (Invictus Valsusa). Men, Elite second series: Andrea Bertone in the 69 kg against Francesca Ciconte (Chivasso), Nicolo Furlan in the 69 kg against Matteo Sanmori (Valbormida), Lorenzo Pizzi in the 69 kg faces Matteo Fruttidoro (Taurinorum), Lorenzo Terzano in the 64 kg against Filippo Girardi (Biella) and Andrea Calabrese in the 75 kg against Matteo Pansa (Savigliano). The last match scheduled is the women’s 64 kg match between Jessica Longo (Taurinorum) and Beatrice Vecchiato (boxing Grugliasco).
