On June 8, a screenshot of a chat record was circulated in the mainland WeChat group. A mother who claimed to be a special-appointed professor of Fudan University’s School of Mathematics Jiang Wenhua broke the news that Jiang Wenhua’s paper was signed by Wang Yongzhen, and Wang also used his power to persecute Jiang.
The lady also pointed out that she and Jiang Wenhua’s parents both knew each other, and their family were honest people. Many people in the 50-year-old age group now stay in the university when the enrollment of university teachers is expanded. Some of them are indiscriminately.
The School of Mathematics of Fudan University officially issued a notice at 10 o’clock in the evening on the 8th, stating that the party secretary of the School of Mathematical Sciences of Fudan University was murdered and the suspect has been detained.
The day before, at 14:52 on June 7, Jiang Wenhua, a special-appointed professor of the School of Mathematics of Fudan University, killed the 49-year-old party secretary of the academy Wang Yongzhen with a knife. At that time, Wang Yongzhen was announcing his dismissal decision to Jiang Wenhua.
The Shanghai police reported that Jiang Wenhua’s motive for the murder was that he was dismissed because he failed the examination, so he committed an attack on the victim.
Video footage of Jiang Wenhua’s arrest circulated on the Internet showed that he was covered in blood, his clothes were torn, his hands were buttoned, and he was sitting outside the door of an office. The police asked him where he was coming from, Jiang Wenhua calmly said “come from home” and said his address.
When asked about the motive for the murder, Jiang Wenhua said that someone fabricated “rumors” and said, “They were framed a lot in the unit and received a lot of bad treatment” and “continued to the present.”
According to sources, the 39-year-old Jiang Wenhua graduated from Fudan University in 2004 and received a Ph.D. in statistics from Rutgers University. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the National Institutes of Health in the United States. He was the recipient of the first Fudan President’s Award in 2012. After returning to China in 1999, he worked at Soochow University, but his contract was not renewed a few years later.
In 2017, Fudan University introduced talents. Jiang Wenhua went to Fudan to agree on a five-year scientific research assignment. In 2021, he was dismissed because he failed the examination.
After the incident, Fudan University quickly shut down the official website of several colleges on the grounds of network maintenance. Wang Yongzhen’s resume was blocked by the entire network. Even Jiang Wenhua’s former employer, the School of Mathematics, Suzhou University, quickly deleted the information related to him.

Professor Luo said that the “promote and go” model is generally only used in universities such as 985 and 211. Another professor Liu said that the mainland academic circles are full of serious nepotism, and because of this “no-promotion-and-go” model, the problem of academic fraud has arisen.

But in China, if there is no power and resources, it is very difficult for scholars to publish papers or apply for projects, and most scholars cannot do it through the right path.
Professor Liu said: “The situation of scientific researchers is not as good as that of administrative staff and political counselors.
