EU, Med5 letter to release deadlock on asylum agency

Southern front beyond the ‘package approach’ principle on migration

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, JUN 08 – The EU countries of the Mediterranean, the so-called Med5 – Italy, Greece, Spain, Cyprus and Malta – have written to the Portuguese presidency to break the deadlock on the negotiations on the regulation of the European Agency for ‘asylum (Easo), going beyond – for the first time – the package approach “regarding the new Pact on the migration of nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. A move that the Portuguese Interior Minister, Eduardo Cabrita, he hails it as “a great success”, explaining that at this point there is a “political agreement in principle” on Easo.
