Cybersecurity, green light from the CDM to the new agency for security against cyber threats

The Council of Ministers has given the green light to the decree on Cybersecurity which, among other things, establishes the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), whose birth had already been announced in April by Franco Gabrielli, the undersecretary with responsibility for information and security services. The Agency has legal personality under public law and is endowed with regulatory, administrative, patrimonial, organizational, accounting and financial autonomy. The offices, as explained in the draft decree, “of the general manager and the deputy general manager have a maximum duration of four years and are renewable, with subsequent measures, for a maximum total duration of a further four years. The Director General of the Agency is the direct contact person for the President of the Council of Ministers “

The functions of the new Agency

In the draft of the dl on cybersecurity, the functions of the new Agency are defined, which “is the National Authority for cybersecurity and, in relation to this role, ensures coordination between the public entities involved in compliance with the competences attributed by current legislation to other administrations in the field of cybersecurity at national level and promotes the implementation of common actions aimed at ensuring a security framework and cyber resilience for the development of the digitization of the country, the production system and public administrations, as well as for the achievement of autonomy, national and European, with regard to IT products and processes of strategic importance for the protection of national interests in the sector ».

300 initial employees

The initial endowment will be 300 employees, and by 2027 it could reach 800. Furthermore, in the conception of the new cybernetic architecture, there is a targeted strategic profile: the relaunch and development of Italian companies. Not just in protection from attacks. But also in the ability to develop start-ups and companies in a continuously growing sector. Today, various software needed for cyber security is imported from abroad, with all imaginable implications. The take-off of the Italian ones is the subtitle of the new cyber policy of Palazzo Chigi.
