Joint intervention of the Piedmontese Alpine and Speleological Rescue and the Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue in the municipality of Ceresole Reale for a ski mountaineer involved in an avalanche.
The call reached the 118 operations center of Grugliasco around 12.15 on Sunday 2 May due to an accident in the channel downstream of the Col Perdù, at an altitude of 2900 meters, in the Levanne group. A 52-year-old ski mountaineer living in Biella was overwhelmed and partially buried by a rather large avalanche. At that time the helicopter ambulances of the 118 Piedmontese were occupied, so the helicopter of the 118 Valle d’Aosta with the complete crew, including the avalanche dog unit, was sent to the site.
On the spot they found the injured man, already pulled out of the snow by other ski mountaineers, who had a suspected fracture in his arm. While the patient was stabilized by the health personnel, the Alpine Rescue technicians reclaimed the avalanche, excluding the possibility that there were others buried. Subsequently, the injured was boarded on a helicopter and taken to hospital in Aosta.
