Cordoba, Argentina – Catriel Sánchez, a promising Argentine footballer, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 28, citing mental health concerns as the‍ primary reason.

Sánchez,who honed his skills⁤ in the youth ranks of Talleres de cordoba and later played for ⁤various clubs including Karpaty Lviv,Villa Dálmine,and Instituto,revealed his decision in ‌a heartfelt statement. He expressed the ‍need to prioritize his well-being and focus on his mental health, stating, “I wasn’t​ happy, I didn’t have that desire, that ambition that a footballer ‍needs.”

The forward’s⁤ career has been marked by both‍ triumphs and adversity. He achieved success as ‍a youth player, even becoming a champion in the seventh division with Talleres. However, his ‌journey ‍was also ⁢punctuated by important challenges, including​ a harrowing incident in 2021 when ‌a ​fan ⁣stabbed him in the neck ⁣during a match with Villa Dálmine,‍ leaving him in a coma⁣ for three days.

A recent report by FIFPro, the international union of professional footballers, ⁣revealed alarming ‍statistics. ⁤It found that 23% of ​active players suffer from sleep‌ disorders,9% from ‍depression,and⁤ 7% from anxiety. ⁣These figures⁢ are even higher among retired players, ‌with 28% experiencing sleep ‌problems, 13% depression, and 11% anxiety.
